Summary of Planned Facilities and Activities before Parks Board's proposed Master Plan changes on
July 20, 2006
Lots of great stuff is planned for Horseshoe Farm! The Draft Park
Master Plan provides for a broad range of activities and amenities, including:
river-oriented recreation (a canoe launch will support canoeing and kayaking; river-edge platforms will support fishing, environmental education and general observation)
a combined environmental education and arts center (will support classes in arts, crafts and nature study, summer camps, community meetings, a resource library, wildlife viewing, restrooms and staff offices)
a variety of picnicking facilities both large and small
an outdoor amphitheatre
sand volleyball courts
camping sites
a children's play area with a possible water feature and a climbing wall or boulder
open play fields for unstructured activities such as kite flying, pickup ball games and Frisbee
a variety of trails including
greenway connection to Falls Lake and bridges over the Neuse,
interpretive trails to allow visitors to experience the variety of
natural environments in the Park,
a wetlands interpretive station and boardwalk,
a bird trail
wildlife habitat enhancements including a butterfly meadow, a wildlife viewing station and a transitional wildlife habitat zone
archeological displays about the prehistory of the area
